2. We shook hands after I recognized that he is a big movie star.

當我認出他是電影明星之後他還跟我握手。

受到中文母語干擾的影響，許多人會把「握手」講成 hold hands，這其實是不對的。英文裏的握手應該是 shake hands 才對。例如，"We shook hands after we finalized the deal." (當我們完成了這筆交易之後互相握手。) 而 hold hands 呢則是中文裏「牽手」的意思，例如，"I like my boyfriend to hold my hands." (我喜歡我男朋友牽我的手。) Shake hands 引申的用法則是指「和...攜手合作」或是「和...達成協議」，例如 "United States shake hands with Pakistan to capture terrorists." (美國和巴基斯坦合作逮捕恐怖份子) 

除了直接講 hold hands 之外，我們還可以用 hand in hand 這個片語，也是手牽著手，同樣也有攜手合作的意思。例如 "They look so made for each other when they walk hand in hand." (當他們手牽手走在路上時看起來好速配喔！) 或是 "Two companies are hand in hand to develop new drugs." (兩家公司現在攜手合作開發新藥。)
