學過物理的人大概都知道，static 這個字指的是靜電而言，但有趣的是，如果有老美說，"Our TV gets too much static." 或是 "There is too much static." 指的並不是說電視上有靜電，而是指電視的收訊不良，以致於出現像是雪花一般的訊號。所以同樣的意思，你也可以說成，"Our TV gets too much snow." 或是乾脆直接了當地說，"This channel has poor reception." (這個頻道收訊不良。)
