Heroine Katniss Everdeen returns to face her toughest battle yet

One would think that winning the Hunger Games would be all good — gifts, money, fame, glory, that sort of thing. However, in the sequel "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire," which will be released in Taiwan on Nov. 22, victory in the 74th version of the famous battle to the death just ends up bringing more problems for Katniss Everdeen (played by Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (played by Josh Hutcherson).

The people of the country of Panem are eager for change and see Katniss and Peeta as their revolutionary leaders. Consequently, the pair is thrown into battle again in the 75th Hunger Games, an all-star edition known as the Quarter Quell, where the competing "tributes" are chosen from previous winners.

"You fought very hard in the games, Miss Everdeen. But they were games. Would you like to be in a real war?" President Snow ominously asks Katniss in the new film, which is based on the second book in Suzanne Collins' series. And as events build, Katniss must deal with challenges unlike any she has faced before.

As the film begins, the heroine is living in Victors' Village and struggling emotionally after winning the Hunger Games. While she doesn't have as many worries as she did, like a lack of food for her and her family, "that leaves her in a horrible position of not having anything to do," Lawrence said. "She's trying to get her life back together, but she is stuck in a kind of life she doesn't really recognize."

"It's one of those things where you can't go back to starving and worrying about how you're going to get your next meal. But what do you do when you don't have to do that anymore? She has to be content with this new life and find herself," Lawrence explained.

In "Catching Fire," fans will get a more complete view of Panem. According to director Francis Lawrence, this is the movie where the story really starts to open up, the world gets bigger, the risks are greater and the relationships become much more complex. "Katniss' journey becomes clearer here," he said. "In this movie, you understand what she did in the first one and how it's affecting the entire nation of Panem. You understand what's at stake for her and how she's trying to protect her family and what she's starting to mean to the ordinary people of this place."
