Giant panda Yuan Yuan and her cub Yuan Zai chew on bamboo at the Taipei Zoo, yesterday. Hundreds of visitors lined up outside the Taipei Zoo before it opened its doors yesterday morning in the hopes of catching a glimpse of Taiwan's first panda cub, Yuan Zai, on the first weekend of her public debut. The cub was born on July 6, 2013, following four years of attempts at artificial insemination for mother Yuan Yuan using sperm from father Tuan Tuan. Yuan Zai's parents were given to Taiwan by China in 2008 as a symbol of the warmer ties between the two sides. (CNA)
