Japan’s Sapporo announced plans to host the 2026 Winter Olympics, despite doubts about whether the Japanese Olympic Committee（JOC）would put forward a bid.
儘管還不確定日本奧林匹克委員會是否會提出申請，日本札幌市已宣布申辦2026年冬季奧運會的計畫。
Fumio Ueda, the mayor of Sapporo, told a city assembly meeting that local residents, and those in Japan’s most northern island prefecture Hokkaido, were behind the 404.5 billion yen bid. Sapporo was the first Japanese city to host the Winter Games in 1972.
札幌市長上田文雄在市議會的一場會議上表示，當地居民以及日本最北端島嶼北海道的民眾，都是這項斥資4045億日圓申奧計畫的後盾。札幌在1972年成為第一個主辦冬奧的日本城市。
Kyodo News speculated that Japanese doubts about bidding were down to the number of Olympic events Asia are lined up to host in the coming years, believing it would be difficult to convince the IOC to return to the region if other continents bid.
日本「共同社」推測，日方對是否申辦2026年冬奧的疑慮，在於未來數年亞洲各地等著舉辦奧運賽事的次數。日方深信，倘若其他洲有意主辦，將很難說服國際奧會讓（2026年冬奧）回到亞洲。
