「書法」這種藝術在英文裡是用 calligraphy [kəˋlɪgrəfi] 這個字

「會寫書法的人/書法家」則是 calligrapher [kəˋlɪgrəfɚ]

不過大家要知道的是，這個字不是只有指中國用毛筆寫的書法

西方人其實也有「書法」，也有各種筆具和字體的變化

特別指中國的書法就說 Chinese calligraphy

要說一個人書法寫得很好，英文裡是說 He is a great calligrapher.

(不要用中式英文說出像 He writes calligraphy very well. 這種不正確的句子)

我們來造些相關的句子：

Do you know how to write (in) calligraphy?
(你會寫書法嗎？)

I have practiced calligraphy since I was five. 
(我從五歲就開始寫/練習書法。) (註：practice也有「施作、實行」之意)

My son won first place in a calligraphy contest. 
(我兒子贏得書法比賽第一名。)

I copied a famous Chinese poem in calligraphy.
(我用書法抄了一首著名的中國詩。)

Beginners of Chinese calligraphy usually practice by tracing or copying model calligraphic works.
(中國書法的初學者通常以描或臨摹知名書法作品的方式來練習。)

可以順便學的是如果要稱讚一個人寫字很好看

則是說 You have nice/beautiful handwriting.

寫字很整齊則是 You have (very) neat handwriting.

也可以在看到此人寫的字後說 (That is) Great penmanship. 來稱讚他字寫得好看
