中國人有一句諺語說「左眼跳財, 右眼跳災」, 這句話要解釋給老美聽可能要花上老半天工夫. 不過如果你已經知道眼皮跳用的是 twitch 這個動詞, 那可能會簡單些. 所以我們可以這樣解釋給外國人聽, "Twitching on the left eye forecasts fortune but twitching on the right eye forcasts disaster."
自從網際網路問世以來,樂壇就發生了空前的轉變。過去,要在流行音樂界有所成就,往往得遵行一套由唱片公司、電台、電視台和樂壇大亨主導的嚴格公式。唱片銷量曾是成功的唯一判準,流行音樂樂手得在某些標準之內循規蹈矩,才能獲得在電視台演唱的機會,有影響力的電台才會播放他們的歌曲。
的確,目前仍有些樂手靠這種傳統方式而功成名就。但愈來愈多藝能界人士開始明白,假如他們要成為現代的超級巨星,還得擁有別的條件。現在, YouTube 的觀賞次數遠比在電台播出作品重要;唱片銷量嘛,那是落伍的東西了。現在,透過 iTunes 等網路管道購買音樂的人一年比一年多。
