Broad 和 wide 這兩個形容詞的意思都是「寬闊的；寬廣的」，但它們的含意和用法不盡相同。譬如說，在 Cindy stared at her boyfriend with wide eyes. (辛蒂睜大眼睛注視著她的男友) 這句中，只能用 wide，不能用 broad。

Broad 強調兩邊之間面積的廣大，可用來形容大而平坦的區域；在形容人的臉、肩、背、胸以及植物的葉子時，通常用 broad 而不用 wide，如 My brother has broad shoulders. (我哥哥有寬闊的肩膀)；Ships sail on the broad ocean. 英文：sleep through the alarm (v.)

說明：片語動詞 sleep through (something) 意為「睡著沒被 (某事物) 吵醒」。對於習慣晚睡或不習慣早起的人，鬧鐘往往發揮不了作用。「習慣早起的人」叫做 morning person。

(形容詞) 美味的，可口的 (delicious)。

• This cake is absolutely delish! (這蛋糕絕對好吃！)
• The dinner was delish. (晚餐很好吃)
• That food was really delish. (那食物真是美味可口)

分清好壞；區分優劣。

例句：

巧克力 (chocolate) 的原料來自可可豆，後者的英文叫做 cocoa bean 或 cocoa seed；事實上，cocoa bean 和 cocoa seed 並不完全相同，因為 cocoa bean 是長在 cocoa seed 裡面，但這樣的區分對大多數人來說並不重要。至於可可豆，則是來自可可樹 (cacao 或 cacao tree)。可可豆可以加工成可可粉 (cocoa 或 cocoa powder)、可可脂 (cocoa butter － 可用於製造巧克力、化妝品和肥皂) 或巧克力。

所以，可可樹的英文是 cacao，而用可可樹的可可豆所製成的可可粉，則叫做 cocoa。至於可可樹其他未被加工成可可粉的部分仍然叫做 cacao。

說明：sweetheart 的這項用法已經有些過時。當然啦，主詞 you 可視不同情況改成適當的人稱或人名。

TAIPEI--Three athletes will represent Taiwan at the Sochi Winter Olympics set to open at midnight Saturday (local time), the largest delegation Taiwan has ever sent to the Winter Olympics.
