Residents in one of the northeastern-most towns in Japan were greeted by a rare visitor from the wild.

Locals found a Steller sea lion sitting in the middle of a road in a residential area about 250 meters inland from the Shari fishing port around 9:50 a.m. on Nov. 24.

Police and other officials were sent to the area after receiving a report that said, "A Steller sea lion is basking in the sun here."
