The proprietress of a ryokan in a village near Mount Ontakesan says she has no intention of leaving after the deadly eruption in September despite a lack of customers, with memories of two departed loved ones firmly rooted in the area.

Ninomiya, 69, who lost her husband 10 years ago and their oldest son due to illness when he was in his 20s, operates the inn on her own.

Since the eruption, the inn’s future has become uncertain. However, Ninomiya has never given a thought to closing the facility, saying, "There’s no way I could ever leave Otaki."
